Nigerian rapper arrested for refusing to pay hotel bill

Olaoluwa Owolabi, a self-proclaimed rapper, who reportedly declined to pay N92,800 for his hotel bills, has been prosecuted before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Friday Mameh, prosecuting police officer, stated that the 29-year-old accused, who is a resident of No. 2 Adetoyin Street, Ajah, carried out the offense between August 1 and September 5, 2017 at two hotels in Lagos.

He said that on August 1 at Diamond View Hotel, Chevron Roundabout, Lekki, Owolabi ordered drinks, food and acquired other services amounting to N13,600 but declined to pay his bills.

Another similar incident happened on September 5, at about 9:00AM, at Strait Haven Hotel, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. Owolabi incurred bills amounting to N79,200 and was able to pay.

The prosecutor disclosed that the offenses breach Section 313(A) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and punishable under same.

He added that the rapper asserted that he was on the record label of 234 Fusion and had 20 tracks.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate B. Bakare accorded the defendant bail in the sum of N150,000 with two guarantors in like sum.
